25 Years and Counting

Warnborough College Ireland (WCI) celebrated its 25th birthday in the South Tyrolean mountains at our learning centre, WOB International Academy.

WCI was set up 25 years ago to address the growing need for non-traditional remote learning. Over the years, we have created unique and personalised learning opportunities for many students.

On the 3rd and 4th April, WCI was in Bolzano celebrating 25 years with visiting professor Urs Hauenstein, parents, students and staff of WOB.

WOB is an amazing partner school, completely green in its approach. We have developed an unique international arts-based curriculum with them that looks to developing students holistically.

Apart from all the usual academic subjects, the key emphasis is on students learning by doing, with important life-skills such as critical decision-making, understanding and working with the environment, and enhancing natural abilities such as the sensory arts.

On WOB’s green campus, students learn to grow their own crops (herbs, vegetables, fruits, etc), look after animals, and create artwork from natural materials such as stone and wood. They are taught how to recycle and repair things so they inhabit a circular economy. Many of the tables, chairs and stools at the school have been made or repaired by the students with guidance from their teachers.

WOB students gather the produce from their gardens including fresh free-range eggs from the chickens, and they learn to prepare and cook their own food. At the school, they make their own pasta, press their own fruit juices, and make their own chutneys and jams.

A 'morning circle' allows students to reflect on their weekend past and the week ahead, while identifying issues and solutions as a whole.
