The DEVISE4KE project held its third transnational project meeting in Bremen, Germany, from February 17 to 22, 2024. The consortium, consisting of the University of Bremen’s Institut Technik und Bildung (ITB), Warnborough College Ireland (WCI), Maristak Durango, University of Rongo, and three secondary schools from Homa Bay (Kiabuya, Miramba, and St. Joseph Olando), gathered to discuss project progress, share insights, and enhance digital learning strategies.
Hands-On Digital Learning and Curriculum Development
The meeting began with a warm welcome from Dr. Peter Kaune and project coordinator Vivian Harberts at the University of Bremen. Dr. Julian Ng (WCI) led two workshops on digital learning, emphasizing hands-on activities with low-energy gadgets. These sessions aimed to equip Kenyan partners with innovative tools for effective digital instruction.
On February 18, Vivian Harberts introduced Learning and Work Tasks (LWTs), a crucial element of the project, guiding participants on their creation. Dr. Julian followed with a session on active online learning, a step toward shifting teachers away from traditional classroom-only methods. Associate Professor Christian Staden demonstrated the use of a Task Manager to design and execute digital learning lessons.
February 20 featured an engaging LWT on “Entrepreneurship in the ICT Sector” by Iratxe Lerrajete from Maristak Durango, fostering innovation and business thinking among educators. Dr. Julian also led another interactive session using low-energy devices to create lessons, reinforcing the sustainability aspect of the project.

Cultural and Industrial Excursions
Beyond workshops, the consortium explored Bremen’s industrial and historical landmarks. On February 19, partners visited the Beck’s Factory, learning about centuries-old brewing traditions. They concluded the day with a networking dinner at the historic Bremer Ratskeller restaurant. On February 21, a trip to the Bremen School Museum provided insights into the evolution of Germany’s education system, offering reflections on how educational methodologies have transformed over time.
The meeting wrapped up with farewells and anticipation for the next face-to-face gathering in Kenya in October 2024. The DEVISE4KE project continues to drive innovation in TVET education, bridging digital skills and entrepreneurship for sustainable learning.
