Dr Sandra Hutcheson Interview

Warnborough College recently had the privilege to conduct an interview with Dr Sandra ‘Sandi’ Hutcheson who was recently appointed as the Programme Director of Creative Writing. A native of Atlanta in Georgia, USA, Sandi now lives in St Augustine, Florida where, in addition to her Warnborough role, she teaches at a local college and has the envious fortune of living within a hundred or so metres of the beach.

Sandi recalls knowing how even when very young she wanted to be a writer, remembering how she used to practise as a child on her grandmothers typewriter. This led to a University degree in the subject and later a Masters of Fine Arts in the craft which would prove to be a lifeline during a difficult period in her life.

Her enthusiasm for creative writing extended to her studying for her Doctorate through Warnborough before graduating and taking on the mantle of course director herself. She is a staunch supporter of the quality of the courses offered by Warnborough College and the value of low-residency learning programmes. Her goal in the new role is to help increase the flexibility of the courses to fit the needs to students even better than before.

Sandi has three grown-up children and lives with her three dogs – two dachshunds who think they run her house and a three-legged German Shepherd named Poncho who does his best to keep them in line.
